Getting Your Ideas Heard by the FCC

Set up a meeting with FCC staff.
Invite them to your conference.
File comments in proceedings.
Be professional.
Be polite.
Do not come in with a chip on your shoulder.
Do not break confidentiality.
Do not make a public circus out of working with government officials.
Remember that reputation goes a long way in DC.

The doors to Washington are open, but you do need to know how to work the system. The rules are simple. Be professional, be polite. If you come in with a chip on your shoulder, I mean real attitude, where the message is anger and not substance, you will get shut doors. If you break confidentiality, or you make a public circus out of working with government officials, those officials will not want to work with you. There are a lot of civil servants working their butts off to serve the public. They are mostly over worked and cannot possibly get everything done that they want to do. If you make it difficult for them, they will move on to the next crisis.
